Should You Keep Your Metal At Home Or At a Depository?
Here's a side-by-side look at home storage and the depository, and how to figure out which one fits your situation.
Whether you store at home or in a professional vault, your precious metals stay separate, secure, and accessible when you need them.

After you purchase your metals, you decide how they are held. You have two options: direct home delivery with free insured shipping, or professional vault storage at the Texas Precious Metals Depository.
Your bullion ships insured, straight to your door. Your metals, your hands, your decision.
Your metals are stored at the Texas Precious Metals Depository in a fully segregated, audited vault insured through the underwriters at Lloyd's of London. Held separately, not commingled with other clients' holdings.

When you choose home delivery, your metals are shipped via insured carrier at no additional charge. Every shipment is tracked and insured from the depository to your doorstep. Once they arrive, you take possession and store them however you choose. Many clients keep a quality home safe in a discreet location.
The Texas Precious Metals Depository is a purpose-built facility designed specifically for the secure storage of precious metals. It is one of the most advanced depository facilities in the United States. KEPM clients store their metals here because it provides a level of security, insurance, and auditability that exceeds what most individuals can achieve on their own.
Segregated storage means your specific bars and rounds are stored individually as your property. They are not commingled with other clients' holdings. When you request a distribution or sale, you receive your exact metals. Segregated storage is the only kind the depository offers, not an upgrade or premium tier.
All metals stored at the Texas Precious Metals Depository are insured on an all-risks basis for full replacement value through the underwriters at Lloyd's of London, one of the oldest and most trusted insurance markets in the world. Coverage is subject to certain usual and customary exclusions. The facility undergoes regular independent audits to verify that every ounce held matches the records on file. Your metals are accounted for, secured, and verifiable.
Your metals are stored at the Texas Precious Metals Depository (TPMD) and valued nightly at market, so what you pay is based on the current value of your holdings.¹ Storage pricing is tiered and transparent, laid out in full below.²
Annual storage rate, charged on your marked-to-market account value. Applies to silver, gold, platinum, and palladium.
These are direct storage rates. The rates below apply to metals you hold in direct, non-IRA storage at the Texas Precious Metals Depository. Metals held inside an IRA are stored for the benefit of your IRA and billed separately by your custodian, Strata Trust, on its own published schedule. Your consultant can walk you through either path.

¹ Trading commodities and precious metals involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all individuals. Physical precious metals spot prices fluctuate and carry risk of loss. Past results are not necessarily indicative of future results.
² Storage fees are set by the Texas Precious Metals Depository and custodial fees are set by Strata Trust Company. These fees are payable to those providers, may change without notice, and are not controlled by KEPM. Rates shown reflect the schedule that applies to KEPM client accounts and are current as of July 2026. Confirm current rates with your KEPM consultant.
When you pay, when you don't, and how it all breaks down.
The account withdrawal fee is $0. You pay only the shipping, billed at the depository's discounted corporate rates, and you can request UPS or FedEx.
If your metals are at home and you're selling them, you pay the shipping to the depository. The depository offers an insured shipping label, and every inbound package is opened under camera.
Nothing ships, so there is no shipping charge. The metal is already at the depository.
Get the clarity you need to feel confident in how your precious metals are stored.
You have two options. For purchases made with non-qualified (non-IRA) funds, we can ship your metals directly to your door with free insured shipping, or store them at the Texas Precious Metals Depository in a fully segregated, audited vault insured through the underwriters at Lloyd's of London. Metals held inside an IRA are stored at the depository per IRS guidelines. Segregated means your metals are held separately, not pooled with other clients' holdings. They are yours, clearly identified, and accessible when you need them.
Storage fees are based on a small percentage of the total value of your holdings, set on the depository's published tiered schedule. Metals stored directly at the Texas Precious Metals Depository are valued nightly at market and billed monthly. For metals held in an IRA, Strata Trust bills its annual storage fee separately. These fees cover the 24/7 security, insurance through the underwriters at Lloyd's of London, and regular audits required to maintain the facility's standards. Most clients find them a small price to pay for the security and IRS compliance they provide.
Yes, Texas Precious Metals Depository allows for scheduled inspections where you can physically view and verify your holdings. While security protocols are strict and require an appointment, this transparency is a cornerstone of our commitment to your trust. Being able to see your "wealth in a box" is a powerful reminder of the security that physical bullion provides.
