For most clients, the strongest option is professional vault storage at the Texas Precious Metals Depository, a purpose-built facility where your metals are held fully segregated, insured through the underwriters at Lloyd's of London, and independently audited. Storage rates are tiered and published, and you can request a distribution or sale at any time; your consultant coordinates the steps.
If you prefer to keep metals at home, a quality safe that is fireproof and waterproof, kept somewhere discreet, is the practical route. Whichever you choose, your KEPM consultant will walk you through the options so you can decide what fits.
Gold purity refers to the amount of pure gold present in an alloy. It is measured in karats (K) or as a percentage. Pure gold is 24K, meaning it contains 99.9% gold. However, most gold jewelry is made from alloys, which are mixed with other metals to enhance durability.
For example, 18K gold contains 75% gold and 25% other metals, while 14K gold contains 58.3% gold. The higher the karat, the more valuable the gold. Understanding purity is essential when buying or selling gold, as it directly affects the item's value.
Always check the hallmark on your gold items to determine their purity before selling.
Many of our clients own both, for different reasons. Gold has historically been the more stable store of value, with generally less price volatility. Silver carries two layers of demand, one as a monetary metal and one as an industrial metal, which gives it greater growth potential and more price movement in both directions.
The right mix depends on your goals, your timeline, and your budget. Your KEPM consultant can walk you through how each metal behaves so you can decide what fits.
